Updates (And Last Call) For The January Paper Party

Only two days left to register for the January Paper Party!  We are close to full now, so if you are interested in attending, you'll need to get your reservation in quickly!  The cost for the weekend is $35.00 which includes dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday plus snacks and drinks for the weekend.  If you can't attend for the weekend, I have a couple of slots available for either Friday night, January 11th 6-Midnight, ($15.00) or Saturday, January 12th 8 AM - 5 PM ($22.00).  Reservations for the weekend can be made at www.snippinsnapscrap.com under "Workshop and Paper Parties", then "Paper Parties".  (This is processed through PayPal.)  If you prefer snail mail, please send your check to 535-C Hampton Pointe Blvd., #197, Hillsborough NC 27278, but let me know ASAP so that I can reserve your space.

Note the new location for this party is New Sharon United Methodist Church (not Baptist, sorry) located at 1601 New Sharon Church Rd.  From Hillsborough, go out St. Mary's about 2.5 miles then veer left on New Sharon Church Rd.  Proceed just under 2 miles and the church will be on your right.  If you are coming from the country, come out 57 as if you were headed to the Grange Hall.  Turn on Walker Rd. (which is west of the turn to the Grange Hall) and stay to left at the fork in the road.  Walker Rd. will end at a stop sign in front of the church, where it intersects with New Sharon Church Rd.  Easy, right??

There's lots more info about the paper party at the blog, so you might want to check that out at
www.snip-its.snippinsnapscrap.com.  I've got some fun new arrivals I think you all will be excited about....watch for more details and possibly a coupon??

What is a paper party and when is the next one?

Many seem confused by the term "paper party", and others seem to feel, well, unsure as to whether their particular paper crafting specialty would be accepted by others in attendance.  Let's take a minute to clarify.

By "paper party" I mean quite simply a party with paper, and all that makes playing with it fun!  We have scrappers, stampers, (scrampers too!), cardmakers, and even some who are into altering just about anything.  Since the term "crop" seems to define a scrapbooking party where only scrappers are present, it seems like an inappropriate term for our little events!  We get together for many reasons, here's a few reasons to love these parties...

Because:

1.      We need space!
2.      We need a break from our usual responsibilities!
3.      We love to see what others are doing, and what new ideas we can "scrap lift".
4.      A little husband bashing is good now and then!
5.      We need space, lots of space!!
6.      We need to giggle!
7.      We need to borrow each others tools!
8.      We make friends who share our passion!
9.      We love to pig out on M&M's and any other chocolate at the party!
10.     Oh yeah, we need space for our stuff!

Ok, so now that you know what you've been missing, it's time to make sure you don't miss out again!  The next Paper Party is January 11 & 12th!  Show up Friday night at 6 PM at New Sharon Baptist Church (NEW LOCATION for this party!).  Set up, eat dinner (included), shop (mini store with new arrivals for your shopping pleasure), see what your neighbors are up to (and see what ideas you can use yourself) and get started enjoying your creative time and your SPACE!  At midnight, go home, but leave everything where it is so you can come back the next morning (8 AM) to spend the day doing more of the same!  (Eating, Shopping, Talking, and Having Fun!)  Lunch, snacks, and drinks are included on Saturday.  The party lasts till 5 PM, so you have plenty of time to take it all in!

Are you ready to sign up?  Just go to www.snippinsnapscrap.com, and click on Workshop and Paper Party Registration.  Select the Paper Party tab, and you'll be able to sign up via PayPal.  If you prefer, you can always send in your registration ($35.00 for the weekend) via snail mail to:  Snippin' Snaps, 535-C Hampton Pointe Blvd. #197, Hillsborough NC 27278.  Don't wait too long......space is limited and registration will close on January 5th.  Hope to see you there!

Stampers need special offers too!

Recently some of my stamping friends have asked about Christmas stamps.  One of my favorite-ist customers was having trouble finding the new Fancy Pants acrylic stamps, and asked me to try to locate them.  Turned out I could, but the search was fun, and it turned up a lot of new products that I've been ignoring.  Truth be told, I'm not much of a stamper, so I guess I tend to overlook the possibilites that the craft brings to even those of us who scrapbook!  For the fun of it, I've put together a collection of some of the latest additions to the Christmas stamp arena, and am offering these goodies at pre-order special prices.  You will save 20% on each stamp, and most of them are available for immediate shipment!  If interested in any of these products, simply click on the image to purchase through PayPal.  The stamps should arrive in 7-10 days, and I'll arrange delivery with you.  (Note:  if you are not a fan of PayPal, then just contact me via e-mail, kim@snippinsnapscrap.com, and we'll make other arrangements!)  Hope you have as much fun as I did checking these out!  Happy Stamping!

From Basic Grey, I've found these fun new acrylic stamps, which are regularly $15.00, on sale for $12.00 each:

Santa Baby, Sale:  $12.00            Winterland, Sale:  $12.00     North Pole, Sale:  $12.00

The Flip-A-Roo stamps from Sassafras Lass are really neat!  Stamp a background color using the solid side of the desired clear stamp. Then "flip" the clear stamp over and stamp the image onto the background color with a coordinating color. Create multi-color images with ease. High quality clear photopolymer stamps are non-yellowing and easy to clean and store.  Retail is $12.49, pre-order price is $9.99!!

The possibilities for cards and scrapbook pages here are endless!

Free Workshop offered on Saturday!

I've got a great Thanksgiving mini album kit available for purchase this weekend....and a free class to go with it!  If you purchase a "Count Your Blessings" kit, you may come to the workshop from 1-2 on Saturday to have help assembling this cute little keeper!  It will take about an hour to put this together, and when you are done, all that will be missing is this year's photos and memories!  If you'd like to participate in this class, just purchase your mini-book at my website, www.snippinsnapscrap.com under workshops, and bring your tape and paper trimmer to the Grange Hall!  If you can't stay to put it together, don't worry it comes with instructions and it's very easy!!

Crossover Techniques for Scrapper's, Stamper's, & Card-makers to share

Often I hear paper crafters differentiate themselves by what the end result of their efforts ususally are.  In other words, so many of you are either a stamper OR a scrapper.  Card-making seems to be the one area you both have in common.  Most stampers are generating cards in their stamping efforts, and scrappers are learning quickly that card making is a natural off-shoot of scrapping!  The bits and pieces left over from a page are perfect for creating a card!

So if we use the greeting card as a common ground for everyone, what are the techniques that we can share from stampers to scrappers to help make those cards better?  (In the process of this, I'm sure we'll learn that these same techniques can be taken back to the pages and other projects we love to create!)

Chalking is one technique that all papercrafters can use and enjoy.  I have a few tips to share, but I'd love to know what else you guys have learned!

In general, use chalks designed for paper crafting as they will be acid free.  Chalk is somewhat forgiving, you can erase overstrikes!  Chalk does set to permanent in a matter of a few hours, so finishing sprays usually are not necessary.

Use cotton balls to apply a light soft coating of chalk, and Q-tips or applicators for deeper, more defined application of colors.  On a slightly weird note, I read that Creating Keepsakes recommends the use of tampons as applicator, because you get a wider application of deep color than Q-tips or the applicators provide.  Also with this technique you just cut off the end and you have a fresh applicator to use the next time.  Sounds reasonable, however I'm just waiting see how many of you decide to whip one of these out at the next crop...

Chalk loves Versamark!  Stamp with Versamark and apply chalk....the Versamark grabs the color and it's really easy to get beautiful blends of color using this technique.

Chalk is great for outlining or adding detail to die cuts.  It's also great for highlighting important words in your journaling.  I've seen some of you add chalk to your torn pages, which is beautiful!

What do you like to use chalk for?  Have you got any other ideas you can share?  Let's pool our resources and see what we can learn from each other!

Where in the world is Schley Grange Hall?

It's a little off the beaten path, but an easy drive from Hillsborough, Mebane, Durham, and Roxboro.  (Chapel Hill's not bad either!)  Click here to see the map:

Share Your Knowledge!

I've had some questions about the use and purpose of this blog....so I thought I'd take a moment to try to make some clarifications!  I plan for this blog to be an "interactive" newsletter.  This is the place for me to keep you up to date on what's new, both in the store and for the calendar.  But it's also a place for you to comment, make suggestions, and yes as the name of this article suggests - share your knowledge!  Feel free to use this category to share your latest tips, pictures of your project, or to ask for help!

Subscribing is easy, you just need to provide your e-mail address.  Commenting is easy, just validate with the code and add your comments!  Adding pictures is a little more work - but not too much!  Just send me the picture you want to upload, and let me know which comment it's for.  Remember, all comments are reviewed before publishing, so I should be able to add your picture and approve your comment all at once.

Anyone have a new tip to share?
